“A FLOR DO MATO” – SHARJAH ILLUSTRATION EXHIBITION 2021

Uma bela notícia!! Minhas ilustrações para o livro "A FLOR DO MATO" (Positivo, 2018) foram selecionadas para a Mostra Internacional de Ilustrações de Sharjah, nos Emirados Árabes.

Envio originais para Sharjah sempre que posso, mas essa é a minha primeira seleção. A Mostra faz parte de um grande evento bienal, o Festival de Leitura Infantil de Sharjah (SCRF), que está em sua 12ª edição.

A ilustradora eslovena Andreja Peklar recebeu o prêmio máximo da Mostra, que também agraciou a italiana Alicia Bravo, a mexicana Esmeralda Rios e a argentina Claudia Legnazzi, entre outrxs.

O catálogo está graficamente muito bem cuidado e chegou em belíssima caixa, acompanhado de uma medalha. Agradeço pela gentileza dos organizadores do evento.

FLOR DO MATO é um nome antigo da Comadre Florzinha, personagem popular do folclore nordestino. Por isso, as ilustrações do livro se basearam nos grafismos do Maracatu Rural, manifestação cultural de forte presença em Pernambuco.

Great news!! My illustrations for the book "A FLOR DO MATO" (Positivo Publishing House, 2018) were selected for the Sharjah International Exhibition of Illustrations, in the United Arab Emirates.

I send originals to Sharjah whenever I can, but this is my first selection. The exhibition is part of a major biennial event, the SCRF - Sharjah Children's Reading Festival, which is in its 12th edition.

Slovenian illustrator Andreja Peklar received the maximum prize of the exhibition, that also awarded Italian Alicia Bravo, Mexican Esmeralda Rios and Argentine Claudia Legnazzi, among others.

The catalogue has a nice design and arrived in a so beautiful box, including a medal. I am grateful for the organizers’ kindness.

A FLOR DO MATO (FLOWER OF THE WOODS) is a picture book about a popular character of Brazilian Northeastern folklore. Its illustrations were based on the graphics of “Maracatu Rural”, a traditional cultural expression of that region.

Em 2018, fui convidado pelo amigo Luiz Enne para criar os personagens dos rótulos das cervejas

, fabricadas em Lumiar, na serra fluminense.

Foi muito bom participar do projeto, não só por se dirigir a um público diferente do que estou habituado, mas por ser a empresa LUMIARINA bastante comprometida com questões socioambientais da região serrana.

O design gráfico dos rótulos é da Artesanal Comunicação.

A LUMIARINA mantém uma cervejaria em Lumiar e, em breve, teremos um novo sabor (com personagem a caminho).

In 2018, I was invited by my friend Luiz Enne to create characters for the labels of Lumiarina beers, produced in Lumiar, in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro state.

It was very nice to take part in this project, not only because it is a different market to me, but also because LUMIARINA company is very committed to socioenvironmental issues in its region.

The graphic design of the labels is by Artesanal Comunicação.

LUMIARINA maintains a brewery in Lumiar and, soon, we will have a new flavor (with a new character on the way).

A Expo itinerante "Migrations", que desde 2017 roda o mundo com artes originais na forma de postais, estreou esse mês na Biblioteca Internacional da Juventude, em Munique.

Além de participar da mostra, fui convidado a produzir um vídeo para a Biblioteca, falando rapidamente sobre o processo de criação dos meus postais. Artistas como Isol, Piet Grobler (idealizador do evento), Shaun Tan e Mohammad Barrangi, entre outros, também enviaram seus vídeos.

A IYL, maior biblioteca do mundo no campo de publicações para crianças e jovens, produziu ainda um material interessantíssimo com o itinerário da exposição, o que dá uma noção da beleza do prédio da sede, o Castelo de Blutenburg.

A expo "Migrations", organizada pelo ICPBS / Universidade de Worcester (Reino Unido), parte de imagens de aves para abordar e questionar o drama da imigração, e repassa tudo o que arrecada para centros de refugiados. Ilustradores brasileiros como André Neves, Roger Mello e Marilda Castanha também participam da mostra com belos postais.

The itinerant Expo "Migrations", which since 2017 travels the world with original arts in postcards, debuted in February at the International Youth Library, in Munich.

Besides to participating in the exhibition, I was invited to produce a video for the Library, talking about the creative process of my postcards. Artists like Isol, Piet Grobler (creator of the event), Shaun Tan and Mohammad Barrangi, among others, also sent their videos.

IYL, the largest library in the world in the field of literature for children and young people, also produced a very interesting material with the exhibition's itinerary, which gives a sense of the beauty of the headquarters building, Blutenburg Castle.
